Guided Visit

Biblioteca Nacional (BN) is open for visits from Monday to Friday, from 10AM to 5PM., with its majestic architecture, including stairways, wide skylights in stained glass, beautiful ornamentation, preserved rooms, as well as works of art such as paintings and sculptures.

The guided visits are free of charge and can be attended daily, from Monday to Friday, in English at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. They need to be scheduled in advance, through the phone (21) 2220-9484 or the e-mail [email protected].

It is necessary to store the visitors’ personal belongings in the lockers, which work with the deposit of a 1 real coin. The coin returns after the locker’s use.

The guides who lead the visitors are especially selected and prepared to transmit historical information about the Library, its heritage, collections and main works, transforming the visit into an unforgettable cultural route.

Visitors may also visit the building on their own, without the orientation of a guide.

Special or group visits

Visits for specific groups can be scheduled previously with a custom itinerary and theme, depending on the participants' backgrounds and interests.

The visit

Meet the inside of the historical building, inaugurated in 1910, and appreciate its impressive architecture, with staircases, wide skylights in colored stained glass, elegant ornamentation and preserved rooms. You will be able to appreciate the artwork decorating its interior areas, including pictures, panels and sculptures.

In the corridors, in the heritage rooms and in Espaço Cultural Eliseu Visconti, it is possible to attend thematic exhibitions, which congregate pieces of multiple collections.
