Accessible library

Since 2008, the project Accessible Library assists visually impaired and elderly people in the accomplishment of physical and digital heritage research of the Brazilian National Library (BN).

To provide this service, BN formed technicians for the specialized attendance, in partnership with the NGO Brazil Accessibility, and counts on electronic texts magnifiers, independent books reading devices, Braille lines, automatic books veneering, special keyboards and mouse, Braille printers and programs for texts reading that make voice recognition.

In order to guarantee equal and personalized service to all the interested parties and to enhance the use of equipment, the Accessible Library functions from Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 5 pm. The time of consultation reserved for each machine is of two hours, in case there is another scheduling for the same day.

How to use the accessible library service

    Present yourself at Biblioteca Nacional on the date and time scheduled, carrying your Id and report to the reception located in the Main Hall informing your scheduling. You will be directed to the reading room for the consultation accomplishment.
