246th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States

On July 1st, the celebration of the 246th anniversary of the Independence of the United States took place, in downtown Rio, at Espaço Costa Hall. Invited by Consul Jacqueline Ward, the president of the National Library, Mr. Luiz Carlos Ramiro Jr. attended the reception, with his international advisor, Leandro Diniz.

At the opening of the event, the Consul Jacqueline Ward spoke emphasizing the good relations of the USA with Brazil and made, very cordially, the parallel with the Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil. The Consul then passed the word to the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates, Mr. Douglas Koneff, who gave a witty speech, friendly about Brazil and our 200 years of independence.

It was a pleasant environment, in which Mr. Luiz Carlos Ramiro Jr. renewed contacts and strengthened relations with the US Embassy in its cultural representatives connected to the Library of Congress of the United States, Columbia University, among others. During the event, the president of the National Library, Mr. Ramiro, was hosted by Mr. Paul Losch, the Library of Congress Field Director for the United States office of overseas operations.
